Who may purchase license plates in this category?  A resident of Alabama who has served or is currently serving in an active status either on active duty or within a reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces, including the Alabama National Guard and civilian employees of the U.S. Government who are on military orders, in current or future conflicts in support of the global war on terrorism occurring on or after September 11, 2001.

 

Is there any documentation required to be presented by the registrant prior to purchasing this plate? Yes. The veteran must provide one of the following:


DD214; or
● Copy of military orders activating the service member to serve in support of the global war on terrorism or any future conflict; or
● Letter from unit commander that the service member was on active duty during the time covered by the global war on terrorism or any future conflict; or
● Copy of the certificate which accompanies a service medal or ribbon
.

 

A civilian employee must provide a letter from the U.S. Government employer certifying that the employee served in support of the global war on terrorism during the time covered by the global war on terrorism or any future conflict.

 

The "Application for Disability Access Parking Privileges" must be provided to obtain the disability access license plate.

 

What registration fees are associated with the purchase of this license plate?  $23.00- $105.00 depending on the type of vehicle being registered.

 

May the plates be personalized?  No

 

Additional fees: $3.00

 

How often are the additional fees paid?  Only when a metal plate is issued.

 

Are plates in this category transferable?  If so, to whom?  The plates are not transferable between vehicle owners.

 

What type of vehicles may this plate be displayed upon?  Private passenger automobiles, pickup trucks, and pleasure motor vehicles (i.e., recreational vehicles) not exceeding 12,000 pounds gross vehicle weight.

 

How are the net proceeds from the purchase of this plate distributed? N/A
